Package Categories

These categories help classify packages based on their function, material, or purpose:

  • Primary: This refers to the packaging that directly contains the product. It's what the customer typically sees first and directly interacts with (e.g., a bottle for a drink, a tube for toothpaste).
  • Secondary: This packaging holds one or more primary packages. It often serves for branding, display, or to group multiple units of a product (e.g., a box holding a perfume bottle, a carton of soda cans).
  • Tertiary: This is bulk packaging used for handling, warehousing, and shipping. Its main role is to protect secondary packages during transport and storage (e.g., a corrugated box holding multiple cartons, stretch wrap around a pallet).
  • Disposable: Packaging designed for a single use, intended to be discarded after the product is consumed or removed. It's typically not designed for reuse or return.
  • Sustainable: Packaging designed with environmental impact in mind. This could include materials that are recyclable, compostable, biodegradable, made from recycled content, or sourced from renewable resources.
  • Retail: Packaging specifically designed for display and sale in a retail environment. It often includes features for shelf appeal, product visibility, and branding to attract customers
  • Luxury: High-end packaging that emphasizes premium aesthetics, materials, and finishes. It's used to enhance the perceived value of the product and provide an elevated unboxing experience.
  • Flexible: Packaging made from materials that can change shape easily, such as films, foils, papers, or thin plastics (e.g., pouches, bags, wrappers).
  • Rigid: Packaging made from materials that maintain a fixed shape and provide structural protection, such as thick cardboard, plastic bottles, glass jars, or metal cans (e.g., boxes, jars, bottles).
  • Custom: Packaging specifically designed and manufactured to meet unique requirements for a particular product, brand, or shipping need, rather than using standard off-the-shelf options.
